Have you heard of Lone Fir Trail on Highway 20?

All pictures in a slideshow at the bottom!

We had a late dinner at the Old Schoolhouse Brewery in Winthrop, got our girls an ice cream cone and started to head home west on Highway 20. I had heard of the Lone Fir Trail, an ADA trail that leaves from the campground of the same name. It is nearly a mile roundtrip to a fun bridge over Early Winter's Creek. There is also a hikers loop advertised on the trailhead sign, though it really needs some major TLC before recommended exploration.

Our youngest daughter fell asleep before driving the 27 miles to this easy hike, so just our oldest and I took off from the trailhead, leaving my wife to sit with our sleeping beauty. There was another group that started at the same time we did and I was quite surprised to see others on this lesser known wilderness walk.

The trail is very easy and short, but it is another one of my recommended stops along highway 20! My lists of similar hikes is growing and people seem to love the suggestions of an easy hike along our states east to west highways.

One thing to note about this trail is the need for new bridges beyond the cement path of the ADA portion of the hike. I called the Methow Valley Ranger Station and they mentioned that funding is not there to upkeep this hike, though they had been in recently to cut out the downed logs to clear the way for you eager reader!
