Blue Lake / Dock Butte

Baker Lake Area

Miles: 1 roundtrip to Blue Lk

3 roundtrip to Dock Butte

Elevation: 400 feet on return from Blue Lk

1,350 feet gained to Dock Butte

At a quarter mile, through an old clear cut and then into a bigger forest, you come to the junction with Dock Butte Trail. This trail is a bit up and down for 1.5 miles to a viewpoint of Mount Baker and Shuksan. The Blue Lake Trail continues left for a half mile where you drop about 100 feet in elevation to its shoreline. Both trails are somewhat a rolling up and down. The Blue Lake trail feels basically flat except for the short climb down to the shoreline. It also has some campsites on the south side of the lake.

  • Get there: Take Highway 20 east from I-5 passing through Sedro-Woolley to the Baker Lake Highway just beyond milepost 82. Turn left after about 14 miles onto FS rd 12, veering left at almost two miles.  At seven miles stay left again at a marked junction onto FS road 1230 and follow it to the trailhead at the end of this road.
